Today, our team is excited to show you the new Pie. For the past six months, with backing from Digital Garage, Publicis, Siemer Ventures, Peng Tsin Ong, Koh Boon Hwee, and others, we’ve been building a, refreshing, new chat experience for work that focuses on how people really talk, about things.

Building a better company — starts with Pie

Like most people working in tech startups, we share this drive, a hunger to learn and improve that is insatiable. This, together with great execution, is what we believe builds great companies.

Sounds great, right? We thought so too, and while there were plenty of really excellent tools available that help you execute better, there was nothing that helped us “learn and improve” as a company. Shockingly even, we found that we, and everyone we ever worked with, were keeping these super powerful silos of knowledge all to ourselves, locked away in our Inboxes, Dropbox folders, Google Docs, Instant Messages and Bookmark Bars.

That’s when we knew, we needed Pie.

Chat that matters — and is easy to start

Pie is different and on Pie, chats are always on-topic, so you and your coworkers can focus on what’s important. We don’t have channels or networks — on Pie the conversation starts with what you want to discuss.

Start a chat by pasting a link to that incredible Paul Graham article, uploading your updated pitch deck for feedback, importing those new iOS app mockups from Dropbox, or typing a topic or question, say “anyone know a great Burrito place for lunch?”. For anything you drop into Pie, Pie creates a focused chat room for you and your coworkers to chat about that topic. Chat with coworkers — but why stop there

Pie empowers a culture of sharing and learning together, and that’s exciting, as you may find yourself stumbling across topics shared by your coworkers you wouldn’t have thought to look for.

Your chats on Pie are open for your coworkers to join by default, so they can share their thoughts about what you post. And when you do need a certain coworker’s expertise, ask them specifically for their feedback. Unlike all those intranets and chat products, we wanted to enable people who use Pie to pull in valuable expertise from outside your company. On Pie, we’ve made it easy for you to get people you know, your partners, investors and friends involved in your conversations — while keeping other conversations away from anyone outside of your company.

On Pie, you and your coworkers are creating an incredibly rich repository of all of your company’s collective knowledge and we wanted to make it easy for you to put it to good use.
